5 000$ in prizes at a creek race

So the Festival Eau Vive du Haut Saint-Maurice is back this year on May 30-31 and June 1st. And what so special about this festival, it's the only festival with a creek race with prizes in Quebec, but it's also the only festival where, on their first years, the had 27 paddlers registered before the race, 20 paddlers at the start of the first run and less than 10 on the second run. Why, because everybody was dropping out since it was to much of an extreme creek run for the average boater.

So why am I writting this. Yesterday I spoke with one of the organiser and he told me that they are expecting to be able to raise the prizes up to 5 000$ to make it a proboater race and brings some names at the fest.

The race:

Creek Boat Race (2 500$ in prizes in 2007, more in 2008)

On a total distance of 510m with a vertical drop of 8.1%, expert paddlers will paddle for a total amount of prizes of 2,500$. The small Bostonnais River is a continuous class V river. A trail is located directly on the side of the river providing a spectacular view of the river for anyone interested in watching this incredible show. The river will be at a perfect flow for this competition since it will be controlled by a dam on the Wayagamak Lake. This individual event will be a race-against-the-clock

Description

The section starst with 150-300 feet of flat water
Then a 15 feet waterfall drops into a 25feet long pool then another drop of 10 feet follows
A recuperation pool of 100 feet follow the double drop
A 60feet class III drops into a 10 feet class IV drop.
It is immediately follow by another 100 feet class III than drops into a 5 feet class V drops.
This drop is follow by a 300 feet class V slide.
Than a 200 feet class III closes the section.

Inscriptions are best made in advance by fulfilling the registration form on the website or at the site of the Festival (Last option please !!!!).
