Les Lachine ont une nouvelle vague... Surfer La Punta

Après avoir passé un merveilleux week-end à guider un groupe international de Suisses sur la Gatineau, Rouge et Lachine pour Kayak Saguenay. Jonathan Boily, Louis-Philippe Rivest et moi avons décidé de passer notre jour de congé sur les Lachine.

Nous savions que le niveau ne serait pas idéal pour Big Joe et Lucille (connu aussi comme la vague pyramidale) et que la remonter pour y retourner serait un cauchemar avec les pieds d'eau qui recouvrent le rocher où on portage normalement. Quoi qu'il en soit, puisque nous vivons à 5h de route de Montréal, nous croyons qu'un seul surf serait mieux que le simple retour à la maison.

Juste avant de le mettre sur l'eau, j'ai décidé d'arrêter par la boutique de KSF, juste à côté de la mise à l'eau dans le bassin. Hugo Lavictoire, propriétaire de KSF et bon ami, était justement présentement, c'était une bonne chance pour nous afin d’avoir les derniers bêta sur les rapides. Comme de fait, Hugo nous a annoncé qu'à environ 9000 CMS, une nouvelle vague à surf apparait : La Punta. Elle aurait été créée ce printemps juste autour de la péninsule. Par le passé, une très belle existait à cet endroit (rappelez-vous la vieille affiche du Hammer de Riot), mais elle aurait disparu autour de 1998.

Sachant qu’une belle grosse vague sur les Lachine est facilement accessible à partir de la rive, nous avons sorti l’artillerie lourde. Avec GoPro 3 et Canon 7D, nous avons ramené beaucoup de souvenirs. Au cas où la roche déciderait de modifier son chemin une autre fois et refaire disparaître la vague.

On a donc eu une belle séance avec nos 2013 Allstar. Le kayak fut un tel plaisir à surfer sur la vague que LP a décidé d'emprunter celui à Jonathan ainsi que le mien quand on faisait des rotations de photographes. Laissant son propre kayak sur la rive, bien au sec.

La vague a une belle face avec de la pente, assez de mousse pour garder lorsque l’on atterrit les mouvements et elle a une belle épaule à surfer gauche qui permet de s’élancer dans les airs.

Lachine's making new waves... Surfing La Punta

After spending a wonderful weekend guiding an international group from Swiss on the Gatineau, the Rouge and the Lachine for Kayak Saguenay.
Jonathan Boily, Louis-Philippe Rivest and I decided to spend our day off on the Lachine.

We knew that the level with not be ideal for Big Joe and Lucille (also know has the pyramidal wave) and going up will be a nightmare, with the feet of water going over the rock where you normally portage up, to go again. Anyway, since we live 5hrs drive away from Montréal, we believe a one shot surf would be better than only doing the drive home.

Just before putting on the water, I decided to stop by the KSF shop right beside the put-in basin. Lucky for us, Hugo Lavictoire, the owner of KSF and good friend of mine was there, to give the new beta on the Lachine. So Hugo told us that around 9000 CMS, their's a new wave that was created this spring right around the peninsula, La Punta. We use to have a really nice wave there (remember the old Riot Hammer poster) but it disappear around 1998.

Knowing a nice big wave on the Lachine was now easy to reach from the shore, we went for the full camera setup and decide to bring back lots of memory. Just in case that the rock that shift decided to shift again for next year at this wave disappear for ever.

We had a nice session with our 2013 Allstar. The kayak is so great on the wave that LP decided to borrow Jonathan or mine while we where switching place for taking pictures. Leaving his own kayak on the shore, drying.

The wave is steep, with just enough foam pile to be retentive with a nice shoulder on surfer left to throw some big air.
